Corb Lund is a Canadian singer-songwriter who has won multiple awards and accolades for his music, which blends traditional country, roots, folk, bluegrass, rockabilly and Western styles. He is known for his witty and authentic lyrics, his energetic and engaging live shows, and his interaction with his fans on social media.
Corb Lund was born in Taber, Alberta, in 1969, and grew up on his family's farm and ranches near Taber, Cardston and Rosemary. He was influenced by artists such as Manchester Orchestra, Aaron Lewis, and Kip Moore, as well as the heavy metal and Viking culture he discovered through video games and TV shows. He studied jazz guitar and bass at MacEwan University in Edmonton, and was a founding member of the indie rock band The Smalls, which was active from 1989 to 2001 and reunited in 2014. He started his solo career in 1995 as a country artist, forming the Corb Lund Band with Kurt Ciesla and Ryan Vikedal. The band released two albums, Modern Pain in 1995 and Unforgiving Mistress in 1999, before changing its name to Corb Lund and the Hurtin' Albertans in 2005, when guitarist Grant Siemens joined the group. The current lineup also includes bassist Sean Burns and drummer Brady Valgardson.
Lund and his band have released nine albums to date, three of which are certified gold in Canada: Five Dollar Bill (2002), Hair in My Eyes Like a Highland Steer (2005) and Cabin Fever (2012). His music blends traditional country, roots, folk, bluegrass, rockabilly and Western styles, with lyrics that often reflect his rural upbringing, his love of history and his sense of humor. Some of his most popular songs include "The Truck Got Stuck", "Roughest Neck Around", "Horse Soldier, Horse Soldier", "The Truth Comes Out" and "S Lazy H". He has also collaborated with other artists, such as Ian Tyson, Hayes Carll, Miranda Lambert, Jason Isbell and Jaida Dreyer.
Lund has received several awards and nominations for his music, both in Canada and abroad. He has won 12 Canadian Country Music Association Awards, including Roots Artist of the Year eight times, and two Juno Awards, for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year in 2006 and 2007. He has also been nominated for three more Juno Awards, two Grammy Awards and one Americana Music Award. He is a member of the Order of Canada, the Alberta Order of Excellence and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Lund tours regularly in Canada, the United States and Australia, and has performed at various festivals and events, such as the Calgary Stampede, the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, the Glastonbury Festival, the Stagecoach Festival and the Americana Music Festival. He is known for his energetic and engaging live shows, as well as his interaction with his fans on social media. He currently lives in Lethbridge, Alberta, and spends much of his downtime at his family ranch east of Mountain View, Alberta. He is working on his tenth studio album, which is expected to be released in 2024.
He will be performing at the The Lower Third, Soho, one of London's most iconic venues, as part of his European tour to promote his latest album El Viejo, which was released in February 2024. El Viejo is a collection of songs that pay tribute to his late friend and mentor, the legendary Ian Tyson, and showcase his influences of cowboy songs, folk, rock, punk and metal.
