Shania Twain, the queen of country pop, has surprised her fans with a new song called ‘UNHEALTHY’, in collaboration with British singer Anne-Marie. The song is the title track of Anne-Marie’s upcoming second album, which is set to drop on July 28th.
‘UNHEALTHY’ is a catchy pop tune that explores the theme of toxic relationships, comparing them to cigarettes, hangovers and drugs. Shania Twain lends her iconic voice and style to the song, singing
"I know it's unhealthy / But I can't help myself / I'm addicted to you / And nothing else".
The song marks the first collaboration between the two singers, who have both expressed their admiration for each other on social media. Shania Twain posted a video of them singing along to the song in a car, captioning it “Anne-Marie, you are a star! I had so much fun working with you on this song. You have such a beautiful voice and a great sense of humor. I can’t wait for everyone to hear ‘UNHEALTHY'”.
Anne-Marie shared a photo of them together on Instagram, writing “I can’t believe this is real life. Shania Twain is on my album. She is my hero. She is the reason I love country music. She is a badass woman who empowers me and so many others”.
‘UNHEALTHY’ is the latest pop venture for Shania Twain, who has been mostly focusing on her country roots in recent years.
Shania Twain has also announced her sixth studio album, ‘Queen of Me’, on Feb. 3, 2023. The album will be her first since signing with Republic Nashville, a division of Republic Records.
“I am unbelievably excited to announce Queen of Me – the new album and tour,” Twain wrote on her website. “These days, I’m feeling very comfortable in my own skin — and I think this album reflects that musically. Life is short and I want to be uplifted, colorful, unapologetic and empowered. I want to carry a clear message, particularly as a woman, to always remember my power and I hope the songs are a reminder to you, of that same power inside you!”
The album features 12 tracks, including ‘Waking Up Dreaming’, which was released as the lead single in September 2022. The song has an ’80s-inspired sound and a cover artwork that shows Twain posing topless with a cowboy hat and boots.
“I styled that photograph myself. It was all about taking off the bra, taking off the shirt, tying the shirt around my waist,” Twain told The Sun. “This is a statement of being comfortable in my own skin and just being really myself.”
