Live at Acanteen – Headliner Katy Hurt Special Guest Jess Klein (USA)

Live at Acanteen launches a new monthly series celebrating original country, Americana and roots music at the seated Acanteen venue in Chelmsford, Essex.

Katy Hurt – Duo

The first show in the series is headlined by Katy Hurt, performing as a duo. Born in London and raised in the USA, Hurt grew up immersed in country, Americana and classic rock, with influences ranging from Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt to The Eagles and Patsy Cline.

Hurt has become a familiar name on the UK country scene through an extensive touring schedule that has also taken her to the USA, Canada and the Caribbean. Career highlights have included opening for Liam Gallagher at the Pilton Party, sharing a bill with Sonia Leigh and supporting the Bellamy Brothers on their return to the UK.

Her self-released debut EP, Unfinished Business, produced the Top 20 singles Revved Up and Unfinished Business, while subsequent releases Sounds Good In A Bar and Wish I Could Give You Up both reached No.1 on the UK iTunes chart. Recorded in Canada with Juno Award-winning producer Murray Pulver, known for his work with Doc Walker and The Bros. Landreth, those songs feature on Hurt’s debut album, Gimme A Break.

Special Guest: Jess Klein – Solo

Joining Katy Hurt is USA singer-songwriter Jess Klein, performing a solo set. Klein’s acoustic-driven songs combine Americana, folk and alt-country with storytelling that explores love, resilience, anger and the complexities of human relationships.

An experienced international touring artist, Klein has supported Arlo Guthrie, Josh Ritter, Damien Dempsey, John Fullbright and Jonathan Byrd, as well as opening for artists including Ani DiFranco, Steve Earle and Alejandro Escovedo. Her festival appearances have ranged from Newport and Winnipeg Folk Festivals to Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival.

Known for intimate and emotionally charged live performances, Klein brings her distinctive vocals, guitar and storytelling to Chelmsford as the special guest for the launch of the new Live at Acanteen series.
