Sophia Scott: London Concert, C2C Performances, and the Journey So Far

Country singer Sophia Scott, fresh from her appearances at C2C Berlin and Rotterdam, recently played a one-off concert in London and sat down for an exclusive interview with countrymusic.co.uk. . We had the pleasure of speaking with Sophia about her career, influences, and experiences in the country music industry.

Sophia’s journey into music seemed destined from the very start. As a child, she was perpetually humming along to Disney classics like The Lion King and The Little Mermaid, much to her family’s amusement and sometimes exasperation. “My family couldn’t get me to shut up!” Sophia reminisces with a smile. It wasn’t long before she began crafting her own melodies and lyrics, a clear precursor to the musical career that awaited her.

Her early musical influences were an eclectic mix. “Really early it was the Spice Girls and B*Witched. In country music, I was listening to Shania, The Chicks, my mom was a big LeAnn Rimes fan, plus Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette,” she recalls. But it didn’t stop there. Sophia’s childhood home was a melting pot of rock ‘n’ roll icons like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Queen, which subtly infused her unique sound.

Growing up in the picturesque town of Boulder, Colorado, has given Sophia a distinct edge in the country music landscape. Unlike many of her peers rooted in Southern traditions, her Western upbringing on a farm with horses, goats, and even a pot-bellied pig, instilled a rich storytelling heritage in her music. “I think growing up in Boulder, Colorado, sets me apart. I’ve always been a storyteller. Before I was writing songs, I was telling stories,” she explains.

Sophia’s songwriting process is deeply personal and therapeutic. “In the past few years, I’ve been going through an emotional rollercoaster, and while that’s not been the best for me personally, it’s been great for my music!” she admits. Her lyrics, which resonate with raw honesty and vulnerability, often stem from moments of darkness and sadness. Whether jotting down poetry in her journal or recording voice memos of spontaneous melodies, Sophia’s creativity knows no bounds—even if it sometimes makes her an insomniac.

Sophia’s career highlights are as varied as her influences. Performing on The Kelly Clarkson Show stands out as a poignant moment. “Kelly Clarkson is just the kindest. I had a full circle moment – I wrote a song about my parents’ divorce, and it was when she was going through her own divorce that I was able to perform that song on her show. That felt really special,” she reflects.

Looking to the future, Sophia is excited about her upcoming second album, set to release in late summer or early autumn. She describes it as a “newer sound, a newer me,” promising fans a raw, less polished, and braver collection of songs. “It is hard to release some of these songs because certain people will not be happy about it,” she laughs. “But they can suck it! Like they say – Don’t mess with a songwriter!”

As country music continues to gain popularity in the UK, Sophia feels a deep connection with her fans across the pond. “I’ve been here a few times so I feel like I’m used to it, and I feel like I’ve got to know some of my fans, learning their personal stories. We keep in touch on social media and I’m excited to see some of them tonight,” she says with genuine warmth. Her experience at C2C Berlin and Rotterdam this month left a lasting impression. “The C2C experience has been amazing. I am always so touched and grateful for all the fans. They are really great and they make me bracelets like this one,” she shares, proudly showing off a fan-made bracelet.

In a candid moment, Sophia reflects on the challenges faced by women in the music industry. “I think being a woman in country music, and in fact a woman in general is typically more difficult than being a man. But I’m trying my best. Shout out to the females in this industry – It’s definitely more work,” she acknowledges. Through it all, Sophia remains grounded and motivated by simple pleasures. “I go on a lot of walks with my two dogs, I work out, I read. I do try and stay off social media because I think it can drain you and you start playing the comparison game. I like to journal a lot and get my thoughts out. I try to be outside as much as I can – it’s so therapeutic for me,” she explains.

For those just starting out in the music industry, Sophia offers sage advice she received from her father: “The best advice that I’ve gotten is from my Dad, which is ‘Hard work never let me down!’ I think if you just get out there and do it, that really works – be that writing a song, or connecting with people, or doing a show,” she shares earnestly.
