Calum MacPhail
Celtic Country Pop Artist
Calum MacPhail, a talented Scottish musician, has successfully bridged the gap between traditional folk and contemporary country music. Raised in the rich cultural traditions of the Highlands, Calum began his musical journey at an early age, learning the accordion and developing his unique sound. In 2014, he co-founded the trad folk band Hò-rò, gaining recognition and winning the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards Up & Coming Band of the Year in 2017. However, Calum's passion for music extended beyond folk, leading him to explore the world of country music.
In 2022, Calum ventured into a solo career, combining his Celtic roots with the soulful sounds of country pop. His debut solo album, "At Last...", released in April 2023, showcased his versatility and creativity, featuring the chart-topping single "Oh My Darlin'" which topped the iTunes Country Charts. This fusion of genres has allowed Calum to reach a broader audience, and his heartfelt lyrics and captivating melodies resonate with fans of both country and folk music. His commitment to mental health support is evident in his work, with his song "7 Years Old" raising significant funds for Mikeysline, an Inverness-based suicide prevention hotline.
Calum's electrifying live performances continue to captivate audiences, whether he's playing in a packed tent at Belladrum's grassroots stage or at a sold-out show at Eden Court. His involvement with Highland Fire Ceilidh, a renowned wedding and function band, further showcases his versatility on stage. Calum's ability to seamlessly blend traditional Scottish folk with contemporary country music highlights his creativity and the enduring power of his musical heritage. As he continues to evolve as an artist, Calum MacPhail remains a prominent figure in both the folk and country music scenes.
