Courtney Barnett is an Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist who rose to fame with her witty and relatable lyrics and deadpan vocal style. She started her own independent label, Milk! Records, in 2012 to release her debut EP, I've Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris. She gained international recognition with her second EP, The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas, which featured the hit song Avant Gardener.
Barnett's first full-length album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, was released in 2015 and received critical acclaim and multiple awards, including four ARIA Music Awards and the Australian Music Prize. She also earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and a Brit Award nomination for International Female Solo Artist. Her second album, Tell Me How You Really Feel, came out in 2018 and continued to showcase her sharp and honest songwriting.
Besides her solo work, Barnett has also collaborated with other artists, such as Kurt Vile, with whom she released the album Lotta Sea Lice in 2017. She also composed the instrumental score for Anonymous Club, a documentary about her life and career, with Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint.
