Hootie And The Blowfish
Country Rock Band
Hootie & the Blowfish are an American rock band from Columbia, South Carolina, whose distinctive blend of roots rock, folk, blues and country influences helped make them one of the biggest-selling groups of the 1990s. Formed in 1986, the band features lead vocalist Darius Rucker, guitarist Mark Bryan, bassist Dean Felber and drummer Jim Sonefeld. Their warm, melodic sound, rich harmonies and heartfelt storytelling struck a chord with audiences well beyond the traditional rock scene, establishing a musical identity that continues to appeal to fans of country and Americana music.

The band's breakthrough came with their 1994 debut album, Cracked Rear View, which became one of the best-selling albums in American music history. Featuring enduring hits including Hold My Hand, Let Her Cry and Only Wanna Be with You, the album propelled Hootie & the Blowfish to international fame and earned them two Grammy Awards. Their accessible songwriting and acoustic-driven arrangements helped bridge the gap between mainstream rock and the roots-oriented sounds that would later become increasingly prominent in modern country music. Subsequent albums, including Fairweather Johnson and Musical Chairs, further developed their signature sound.

Although Darius Rucker went on to establish a hugely successful solo career in country music, Hootie & the Blowfish have retained their own distinctive place in American music. Following a lengthy period of reduced activity, the band reunited for a major tour in 2019 and released Imperfect Circle, their first studio album in 14 years. For UK country music fans, their catalogue offers a natural connection between the melodic storytelling of contemporary Nashville, the earthy traditions of Southern rock and the harmony-rich sound of Americana. Their enduring songs and unmistakable chemistry have helped introduce generations of listeners to a style of music that comfortably crosses genre boundaries.
