Jake Owen is an American country music singer, songwriter, and actor, who was born on August 28, 1981, in Winter Haven, Florida. He has a fraternal twin brother named Jarrod, and grew up playing sports and golf. He pursued a career as a professional golfer until a wakeboarding accident left him unable to continue. He then taught himself how to play guitar and started performing at a campus bar while attending Florida State University. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2005, and signed a record deal with RCA Nashville after impressing a bank teller with his demo CD.
He released his debut album, Startin' with Me, in 2006, which spawned three top 20 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. He followed it with five more albums, including Easy Does It, Barefoot Blue Jean Night, Days of Gold, American Love, and Greetings from...Jake. He has had eight number one singles, such as "Barefoot Blue Jean Night", "Beachin'", "I Was Jack (You Were Diane)", and "Homemade". On hHis latest album, Loose Cannon, his signature carefree tunes mix with bigger, more mature ideas.
He has also won several awards, including the ACM Award for Top New Male Vocalist in 2009, and the CMA Award for Musical Event of the Year in 2017. He has also acted in the TV series Sun Records, where he played Elvis Presley, and the film Our Friend, where he played Aaron.
He is known for his energetic live shows and his diverse musical influences, ranging from classic country to rock and pop. He is one of the most successful and popular country artists of his generation.
