Raised in Hernando, Mississippi, she grew up around horses and music, thanks to her mother, a champion barrel racer, and her stepfather, a bull rider. Johns began playing guitar and writing songs at the age of fifteen and started performing in local competitions and church youth bands. Her early exposure to music and rodeo culture heavily influenced her songwriting and stage presence.
Johns' career took off when she released her debut album, "Tell Me You Love Me," in 2008, produced by Billy Block. She gained national attention with her single "Whiskey Break," featured in the documentary "Enormous: The Gorge Story."
