Red Sky July
Alt-Country Band
Red Sky July is a British alternative country band formed in 2009 by husband and wife duo Ally McErlaine (formerly of Texas) and Shelly Poole (formerly of Alisha's Attic), along with esteemed vocalist Haley Glennie-Smith. The band's sound blends alt-folk, country, and Americana, and they have gained considerable airplay, including being playlisted on BBC Radio 2. Over the years, they have toured extensively and performed at renowned festivals such as Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, and T in the Park. Their achievements have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Tartan Clef Award at the Scottish Music Awards.
The band's journey has not been without challenges. Before recording their debut album, Ally McErlaine suffered a brain aneurysm, which put the project on hold. After his recovery, the band reconvened and released their self-titled debut album in 2011, which received critical acclaim. They followed up with "Shadowbirds" in 2014 and "The Truth and the Lie" in 2016, both of which entered the official UK country charts.
Their latest release, "Misty Morning," released on February 28, 2025, marks a significant evolution in their sound, blending folk influences with modern instrumentation. The title track paints a vivid soundscape reminiscent of early dawn, filled with rich textures and harmonies that evoke a sense of nostalgia and hope. The album promises to capture the essence of their journey through life and music, featuring deeply personal lyrics and lush melodies.
