See Emily Play
Alt-Country Singer-Songwriter
Sheffield-born singer-songwriter See Emily Play crafts artfully constructed songs that draw inspiration from alt-country, indie, and chamber-pop. Her lyrics delve into themes of mental health and unconventional romances, infused with self-effacing humour and complex feminism. Glenn Gregory of Heaven 17 has dubbed her a “Kate Bush in Waiting,” and her multi-instrumental talents have earned her stages alongside The 1975 and Catfish and the Bottlemen. Emily has also lent her distinctive vocals to projects by I Monster’s Jarrod Gosling’s Regal Worm, Little Man Tate’s Jon Windle, and Liverpool artist Drew Friel. Her performances, described by The Guardian as “extraordinary,” demand attention and showcase her unique vocal prowess on platforms like BBC 6Music, Amazing Radio, BBC Radio Merseyside, and BBC Radio Sheffield.
Now based in Liverpool, Emily continues to impress with her music, earning a spot on Boot Music Magazine's list of the city’s “Best New Artists.” She recently collaborated with producer Rob Whiteley (BC Camplight, The Wombats) on her third EP, Still Playing. The EP retains Emily’s signature rich melodies while drawing stylistic influence from 90s Nashville and 80s New Wave.
The first single, ‘YOKO ONO WAS SEVEN YEARS OLDER THAN JOHN,’ garnered acclaim from both reviewers and fans, showcasing Emily's ability to blend introspective lyrics with catchy tunes.
Emily's follow-up single, ‘WHAT THE HELL IS BDD,’ set for release on November 1st, 2024, is highly anticipated. With her unique sound and thought-provoking lyrics, See Emily Play continues to make waves in the music scene, captivating audiences with every performance and release.
