Skinny Lister
Folk-Punk Band
Skinny Lister is a British folk-punk band formed in London in 2009, known for their high-energy performances and raucous blend of traditional folk and punk influences. The band originated from the Greenwich folk scene, with founding members Dan Heptinstall, Lorna Thomas, and Max Thomas shaping their distinctive sound. Their early years were marked by relentless touring and festival appearances, earning them the title of "Hardest Working Band in the UK" in 2011. Their debut album, Forge & Flagon, released in 2012, showcased their shanty-inspired folk anthems and established them as a force in the folk-punk scene.
Over the years, Skinny Lister has continued to evolve, incorporating rock and indie elements into their music while maintaining their signature folk-punk energy. Albums like Down on Deptford Broadway (2014) and The Devil, The Heart, & The Fight (2016) expanded their sound, leading to international tours and collaborations with bands like Flogging Molly and Frank Turner. Their 2019 album, The Story Is..., saw them experimenting with more personal and politically charged themes, reflecting their growth as songwriters and performers.
In recent years, Skinny Lister has remained a staple of the folk-punk scene, releasing A Matter of Life & Love in 2021 and Shanty Punk in 2023, further cementing their reputation for rowdy, singalong-friendly anthems. Their latest album, Songs From The Yonder (2025), continues their tradition of storytelling through music, blending heartfelt lyrics with infectious melodies. Whether performing in packed clubs or festival stages, Skinny Lister’s ability to connect with audiences through their raw energy and communal spirit remains at the heart of their success.
