The Commoners
Roots Rock Band
The Commoners are a Canadian roots-rock band from Toronto whose muscular blend of Southern rock, blues, soul and country has found an increasingly enthusiastic audience on this side of the Atlantic. Built around powerful guitar work, soulful vocals and rich harmonies, their sound draws on the swagger of classic Southern rock while retaining the warmth and storytelling instincts that should appeal to fans of country-rock and Americana. The group features Chris Medhurst on vocals and guitar, Ben Spiller on bass, Ross Hayes Citrullo on lead guitar, Adam Cannon on drums and organist Miles Evans-Branagh.

The band made a significant breakthrough with 2022's Find A Better Way, an album that established their roots-rock credentials and produced UK radio favourites including "Fill My Cup", "Too Much" and its title track. They followed it with Restless in 2024, pushing their combination of hard-driving rock and country-tinged songwriting further on songs including "The Way I Am", "Shake You Off" and "Devil Teasin' Me". Their growing relationship with British audiences was captured on 2025's Live in the UK, recorded during their 2024 tour with The Sheepdogs; the band have described the UK as becoming a "second home" after repeated tours here.

For UK country fans whose tastes stretch towards Blackberry Smoke-style Southern rock, bluesy Americana and the heavier end of roots music, The Commoners sit comfortably at the crossroads. That British connection continues in 2026 with the band's 12-date Runnin' Blind UK tour in November, while new single "Runnin' Blind" offers the first taste of their next studio album, due in 2027. With an increasingly substantial UK following and a reputation built around energetic live performances, The Commoners are a band well worth discovering for country listeners who like plenty of electric guitar with their roots music.
