The Folly Brothers

Bluegrass Band

The Folly Brothers are a Warwickshire-based bluegrass band known for their energetic live performances and distinctive blend of bluegrass and outlaw country influences. Founded by brothers Mark and Jonny Roden, the band began playing in pubs and clubs around their hometown of Leamington Spa, drawing inspiration from legendary artists such as Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark. Their sound combines rollicking bluegrass rhythms with introspective lyrics, creating a unique style that resonates with audiences across the UK.

The band expanded with the addition of Wes Stanton on double bass, solidifying their reputation as a dynamic trio. Their performances are renowned for their high-energy delivery, often featuring fierce banjo chops, rapid slap-double-bass, and melodic solos on mandolin or dobro. They have become a staple on the UK festival circuit, playing at events such as Black Deer Festival and the renowned folk venue The Green Note. In 2016, they released their debut album, Bridge 101, named after the bridge near their father’s pub where they first began playing together. The album showcases their ability to blend traditional bluegrass with a modern outlaw country twist.

Despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to cancelled shows, The Folly Brothers continued to evolve their sound, incorporating four-part harmonies and additional instrumentation. Their commitment to live music has taken them beyond the UK, including a tour in Austria, and they remain a must-see act for fans of bluegrass and Americana. With a packed schedule of festival gigs ahead, The Folly Brothers continue to bring their infectious energy and authentic storytelling to audiences far and wide.
