On Monday, 17th February 2025, the Northern Ireland Country Music Awards (NICMAs), voted by the public, returned for their fifth annual ceremony. Hosted at the esteemed four-star Seagoe Hotel, the NICMAs have become the most anticipated event in Northern Ireland’s country music calendar, drawing together a vibrant mix of established stars, rising talents, and enthusiastic fans.
The awards, founded in 2019, provide a unique platform for music enthusiasts to voice their preferences and for emerging artists to showcase their talent. This year’s event, like those before it, was a spectacular celebration of the genre’s rich and diverse talent.
Cliona Hagan and John Rafferty Take Top Honors
The evening saw Cliona Hagan and John Rafferty triumph, as they were awarded Best Female Artist and Best Male Artist, respectively. Cliona, who headlined the ceremony, continued her winning streak from 2024, where she also scooped up the Most Glamorous Female prize.

Honoring a Legend: The Big T Favourite Radio Presenter Award
The ceremony was dedicated to Northern Ireland broadcasting legend Trevor Campbell, known as “Big T”, who previously co-hosted the event alongside Malcolm McDowell. In a touching tribute, Big T was posthumously awarded the inaugural Big T Favourite Radio Presenter award, an accolade created in his memory.

A Night of Spectacular Performances
The NICMAs, the only annual country music event of its kind, featured over 40 performers, including leading stars, bands, legends, and promising new artists. Among the special guests were Louisiana-born Robert Mizzell, Co Tipperary’s Trudi Lalor, the editor of RSVP Country Magazine, and Londonderry native David James, Ireland’s newest country star.
The night was a testament to the vibrant and ever-evolving country music scene in Northern Ireland, solidifying the NICMAs’ reputation as a beacon of talent and celebration in the industry. The Seagoe Hotel, where the first awards were held in 2020, once again provided the perfect backdrop for this unforgettable gathering of the country music community.
