Country music’s charm can be surprising, and for rising British country artist Fin Pearson, it was an unexpected journey that led him to the genre he was once skeptical about. In an exclusive interview, Fin opens up about his musical journey, inspirations, and what lies ahead.
From Skeptic to Devotee
“Funnily enough, I used to hate country music! I thought it was lame,” Fin admits with a laugh. His perspective began to shift thanks to a girlfriend who loved the genre and would always tune the car radio to country stations. After their split, Fin found himself enjoying the music he once dismissed. The turning point came when he stumbled upon a song he couldn’t get out of his head, igniting a newfound appreciation for country tunes. “I remember hearing a Kacey Musgraves song called ‘Butterflies’—however at the time I didn’t know what it was, so I just stayed tuned in to that radio station waiting for it to come back on—it took a couple of weeks!” he recalls.
Discovering a New Path
Fin’s transformation into a musician was equally serendipitous. Recalling a memory from his college days, he laughs, “When I was at college, I used to be singing with my friends, and a girl told me I was the worst singer she’d ever heard—dead serious too!” Nevertheless, Fin taught himself to play guitar and sing, and recently started taking singing lessons. “I don’t really consider myself a singer, but I guess I am now!” he modestly adds.

Influences and Inspirations
The artists who have shaped Fin’s sound are as diverse as his journey. “The guy who got me into picking and storytelling is Gabe Lee over in Nashville. He’s a great artist, a good friend, and a helluva songwriter,” Fin says. He also mentions his admiration for chart-toppers like Morgan Wallen, adding, “I’m a fan of everyone!”
Songwriting Stories
One of Fin’s favourite songs, “Devils for Witches,” carries a profound message. Inspired by an American saying, “You’ve traded the Devil for the Witch,” Fin reimagined it to reflect the idea of getting what you give. “That whole song is about you get what you give, and if you don’t give, then you don’t get. You put in what you want, but you’ll get out what you deserve,” he explains.
Festivals and Live Performances
Fin is gearing up for an exciting festival season, with numerous appearances lined up. His festival debut was at Buckle & Boots 2024, which he describes as a “helluva experience” despite being his third-ever show. Now, with a full band and new songs, he’s ready to put on a “big old show.”
The Thrill of Live Shows
For Fin, the adrenaline rush of performing live is unparalleled. “The adrenaline rush is unreal. Like nothing I’ve ever felt before. I get to hang out with my friends on stage. We have fun; it’s what we love doing,” he shares. The transition from jamming in gardens and bedrooms to playing in front of hundreds of fans is a surreal experience for him.
Living in the Moment
When it comes to long-term goals, Fin focuses on living in the moment. “I’m not setting too many goals at the moment. Whatever is happening today, I focus on that,” he says. Although he envisions a bright future, he remains grounded in the present.
The Growing UK Country Scene
The UK’s country music scene has been flourishing, and Fin feels blessed to be part of it. He acknowledges the influence of veteran artist Ags Connolly, who helped him appreciate the scene’s evolution. “It’s bigger than it’s ever been. Venues are popping up, there are more artists to hang out with, share stages with, and it’s just the perfect time,” Fin observes.
Collaborations and Future Plans
Excited about potential collaborations, Fin mentions several UK artists he admires, including Ollie Hawkins, Jake O’Neill, Rhiannon Paige and Katie Rigby. He expresses enthusiasm for writing with them all, reflecting the camaraderie within the scene.
Looking Ahead
Among the many festivals Fin is looking forward to, The Roadhouse Weekender stands out. He also hints at an upcoming performance at a major festival he can’t yet disclose. “I can’t believe I’ll be hanging out with the headliner backstage; it’s going to be awesome,” he reveals.
Alternate Paths
If not a musician, Fin imagines he’d be travelling the world, seeking adventure. “What I do now doesn’t feel like work. I’m doing what I’d do at home with my friends but on a stage. People seem to be loving it, and it doesn’t feel like work,” he concludes.
Fin Pearson‘s journey from a country music skeptic to a rising star in the UK country scene is a testament to the genre’s universal appeal. As he continues to grow and connect with audiences, there’s no doubt that his star will keep rising. Keep an eye out for this talented artist as he takes the country music world by storm.
