A Different Thread
Alt-Country Duo
A Different Thread are a transatlantic Americana duo formed by North Carolina native Alicia Best and UK-born Robert Jackson, whose chance meeting while busking on the streets of Ireland developed into both a musical and personal partnership. Drawing on influences from either side of the Atlantic, they blend American roots, Appalachian blues and alt-country with British folk-rock, led by close harmonies and thoughtful, story-driven songwriting.
Over the following decade, Best and Jackson toured internationally while navigating the challenges of living on different continents. Those years of distance, uncertainty and eventual reunion helped shape their third album, Over Again, recorded after the pair were finally able to settle together in North Carolina. The album explores resilience, grief, change and new beginnings, balancing intimate storytelling with wider social themes while retaining an underlying sense of hope. Its title track won the Folk/Americana category at the International Acoustic Music Awards, adding to recognition that has included a performance at MerleFest and support from Apple Music editorial playlists.

On stage, A Different Thread bring their songs to life with an organic, roots-focused sound built around acoustic guitar, fiddle, harmonica, percussion and their distinctive vocal harmonies. Their live performances can move from quiet storytelling to foot-stomping Americana and audience singalongs, reflecting the combination of British and American traditions at the heart of their music. With Over Again taking them across North America and Europe throughout 2026, the duo continue to build an international following while remaining firmly rooted in the personal storytelling that brought them together.
The duo has released several works, including the EPs 'Home from Home' (2017) and 'High Time' (2017), the album 'On a Whim' (2018), and the EP 'Some Distant Shore' (2020). Their latest album, 'Call of the Road,' was released on September 1, 2022.
Known for their DIY approach and minimalist ethos, A Different Thread's songs explore themes of love, loss, wanderlust, and social justice. They have performed across Europe and the USA, captivating audiences with their authentic sound and storytelling.
