Born Jaten Dimsdale in Atlanta, Georgia, he grew up listening to artists like Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and Garth Brooks. He started singing in musical theater and later joined various bands, exploring different styles and sounds. He adopted the stage name Teddy Swims, which stands for Someone Who Isn't Me Sometimes, to reflect his versatile and eclectic musical identity.

In 2019, he launched his solo career and gained popularity with his covers of songs by artists like Michael Jackson, Billie Eilish, and Shania Twain. His YouTube channel has over 2.5 million subscribers and his videos have amassed over 300 million views. He also released his original songs, such as "Picky", "Broke", and "Night Off", showcasing his soulful voice and catchy melodies.

In 2020, he signed with Warner Records and released his debut EP, Unlearning, which featured collaborations with Thomas Rhett and Maren Morris. He also performed at the Grand Ole Opry, fulfilling his lifelong dream of playing at the iconic country music venue. He described the experience as "the most surreal moment of my life".
